about me
i am a former technology professional turned secondary teacher and on my way to finishing my Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree.
after working a few years in a corporate tech role at an Australian bank, i took a risk and pivoted my career to pursue education. this was driven by a desire to undertake a more fulfilling vocation where i could make an impact on a person's life. while i was in a role that had some sort of 'impact', such as helping people manage their money easily by working on cool technology features that made things banking better and faster, something about that felt futile and meaningless. that's when i saw the opportunity to share what i learned in all the wild tech projects i was exposed to and bring that to the classroom.
ironically, in combination with overall teacher shortages across Australia, PLUS a shortage of skilled digital/computing tech teachers (which was also exacerbated by a wave of TAS curriculum and syllabus changes by NESA), i naturally landed on computing tech as one of my KLAs. my mission is simple: to effectively prepare students for life in an increasingly digital world. how will i do that? not sure yet... but my first starting point is to align my industry experience and knowledge with state or national curriculum, then use those to create an engaging learning environment.
my approach to classroom technologies is best summarised as "enhance, not replace"—prioritising the development of foundational skills while integrating meaningful digital tools that enhance understanding and foster deeper learning. this ensures that technology is used intentionally, serving as a tool to support learning rather than a distraction or replacement for traditional methods.
my ePortfolio will explore the role and value of digital technologies in education, but most of all, it will reflect the evolution of my practice as i critically reflect on a number of topics prescribed by the ESC515 subject on how technology can transform classroom learning when it is used purposefully and effectively.
